From the Principal

Welcome to the 2016/17 school year.  I hope that you had a chance to relax and enjoy quality time with family and friends this summer.  Before the back to school rush hits full speed, I want to share how thankful I am to be your new principal at Presidents Elementary.  I’m very fortunate to work in a building with such quality people, wonderful students and friendly parents.

I have many fond memories of the Arlington community from my childhood.  Although I grew up in Snohomish, I have relatives who were dairy farmers here and my grandparents lived on the Stillaguamish River off Jordan Road, so I spent many memorable days in this region growing up.  Additionally, my mother and grandfather were Arlington Eagles, graduating in 1956 and 1925 respectively.

I believe this job is a true gift!  With each passing school year, I continue to count my blessings that I spend my days with motivated and wide-eyed students excited for what lies ahead each day.  Presidents Elementary will continue to tap into this vibrant and youthful energy with The Leader in Me program by developing our students into young leaders. We will build upon last year’s momentum and ensure all students are provided their own personalized key to the “Gateway to Greatness!”

Presidents Elementary added new staff members over the summer.  Bethany Joyce was hired as our resource room teacher, replacing Mrs. Zelenka who retired last spring.  Karen Ross is our new art specialist.  Mrs. Ross joins us from the Granite Falls School District.  She will teach the first semester of the year at Presidents Elementary.  Mrs. Barborinas has returned to the classroom to take over as our new 3rd grade teacher.  She replaces Mrs. Jensen who moved back to the kindergarten classroom.  Julie Martin will be teaching Health & Fitness during the 3rd quarter, and Jeff Forney joins Presidents as our new day custodian.

Mrs. Jamie Miller has been hired as our new assistant principal.  The Presidents family is excited to bring on a new administrator with a strong instructional background, as well as years of experience performing as a dean of students with the Mukilteo School District.  Hiring quality professionals with huge hearts for kids is the main ingredient in paving the way to success for students, and these new staff members will fit right in at Presidents!

I look forward to a fantastic 2016/17 school year.  Enjoy the remainder of summer and we’ll see you at Welcome Back Night on September 6th, from 5 – 6:30 p.m.
